Food@100%: Innovation 7
Engaging Higher Education
The projects presented in the ten innovations areas are all designed to address barriers to vital services. Action teams should review all projects and prioritize those that have the best chance of addressing the barriers identified in the 100% New Mexico countywide survey. Your collaborative and result-focused local work is nothing less than heroic.
Here’s a quick overview of what you will find below.

Project: Food.7.1
Project 1: The “Feed U” project
Just like with the K–12 students, colleges and universities are important places for the development and implementation of food support programs, including research on solutions and evaluation of what’s working. While not all higher ed institutions are set up to do this, it’s worth asking whether the local college or university devotes any time, research or other resources to making sure that their students and staff have campus-based food support in its many forms — including a food bank. This project assesses all colleges and universities in the region to measure support. This assessment should also include research following examples of campus-based food support programs: Swipe Out Hunger, Bowling Green State University, The “Baylor University food focus” project and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
