Welcome
Here you can discover the who, what, when and why of the EYE, from curators and exhibition content experts, to volunteer opportunities and the role of the Lab. You are invited to be part of one of the nation’s most exciting experiments being implemented in New Mexico. County by county, we are working to demonstrate that by ensuring ten vital services for surviving and thriving for all residents, we can increase their health, safety, resilience, education and job readiness. Our model, called the 100% New Mexico initiative, is county-based, data-driven and technology-empowered. Creating a well-resourced county means everyone, in all the communities within a county’s borders, can endure a public health and economic crisis. With engaged leaders and stakeholders collaborating across ten vital service sectors, we survive and thrive.
ADMISSION
Admission to the EYE and its 10 centers is free, as the only cost of entry is an open mind, curiosity and passion for problem-solving.
HOURS
The EYE is open 24/7 and encourages you and your neighbors, state and local elected officials and co-workers to visit often.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The EYE hosts a wide variety of special event exhibits and learning experiences including the “Power Hour” series on strengthening and creating a 100% New Mexico initiative.
THE VIRTUAL BOOKCAFÉ
The EYE has a book. cafe with publications focused on enriching communities by ensuring that each one provides the ten vital services for surviving and thriving. We also sponsor community chats and hangouts. (You provide the coffee or tea.) Ask us about hosting your book club or author’s talk.

ABOUT CURATING A NEW EXHIBIT
The EYE is curated by the authors of 100% Community and Anna, Age Eight, Katherine Ortega Courtney and Dominic Cappello, working in collaboration with specialists across the state, with input from specialists across the nation and globe. To learn more about being a guest curator, contributing to our exhibitions, please contact us.
WORKING IN THE LABS WITH EXPERTS
The EYE can support any county stakeholder engaged in the 100% New Mexico initiative with technical support. We can provide the staffing to guide action teams members through the process of community engagement, creating partnerships, assessing, planning, action and evaluation. Ask us about scheduling a workshop to support your teams in getting to measurable and meaningful results.
DOCENT PROGRAM
As us about becoming a docent, part guide and all educator, to lead tours through the EYE for groups, including lawmakers, stakeholders, and 100% New Mexico initiative participants who serve as action team members.
Field Trips
Arrange a field trip to the EYE. We can provide tours to students of all ages, introducing them to the world of “yes” and problem-solving they can participate in.
TECHNOLOGY
We at the EYE are huge believers in the power of technology to strengthen systems of health, safety and resilience. We also recognize that a digital divide exists that limits access to the net which means limiting access to empowerment. Contact us to increase access across urban and rural communities.

The EYE is the nation’s first repository for solutions focused on ensuring ten vital services for surviving and thriving. The EYE, with its ten Centers, has at least 10,000 moving parts, that showcase innovations and ideas awaiting implementation. CENTER CURATORS
Katherine Ortega Courtney, PhD and Dominic Cappello
Katherine and Dominic are advocates for turning colliding crises into opportunities for improving systems, solving challenges using data, technology and collaboration. They know why systems that should protect us, can fail us — and teach leadership development and data-driven problem-solving. Dr. Courtney’s expertise in data analysis, continuous quality improvement, collective impact and experimental psychology guides communities and organizations through turbulent and timely change. Cappello is a health systems strategist and New York Times bestseller author, whose Ten Talks book series on family safety reached a national audience when his innovative work was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Katherine Ortega Courtney, PhD and Dominic Cappello are the co-authors of 100% Community: Ensuring 10 vital services for surviving and thriving and Anna, Age Eight: The data-driven prevention of childhood trauma and maltreatment, and Attack of the Three-headed Hydras: Confronting Apathy, Envy and Fear on the road to saving the humans and the future. They are the Co-Directors of the Anna, Age Eight Institute at New Mexico State University, College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
Gregory Sherrow
Gregory is an educator, architect of learning management systems, expert in information technology and web-based enterprises with decades of experience in creating educational, nonprofit and commercial technology solutions. He served as an editorial and technology consultant on the books 100% Community and Attack of the Three-Headed Hydras. Gregory also architected the learning management systems for the Data Leaders for Child Welfare program, an initiative supported by Casey Family Programs to strengthen the process of continuous quality improvement within the child protective services departments of New Mexico, Connecticut, New York City and Pennsylvania. Gregory also developed the learning management system to serve as a repository for data-driven strategies focused on preventing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma. He serves as the IT Director for the Anna, Age Eight Institute at New Mexico State University, College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

Kasandra A. Gandara
Kasandra has spent the last 30 years living and working in the Las Cruces community with both the State of New Mexico’s Department of Health and its Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD). During her service with CYFD, Kasandra returned to NMSU for her graduate degree in Social Work that she received in 2013. Kasandra was elected as councilor for Las Cruces City Council District 1 in November 2015 and now serves as mayor pro tem. In 2018 she put data into action, launching the Doña Ana County Resilience Leaders program to mobilize agency leadership and stakeholders around the promotion of child safety, family health and improving the county’s capacity to ensure ten vital services for surviving and thriving. Through Kasandra’s leadership with countywide engagement and mobilizing, we continue to refine and improve our 100% New Mexico initiative process.
Matt Probst
Matt works as chief quality officer (CQO) and medical director of El Centro Family Health, the first physician assistant (PA-C) to serve on the El Centro executive team. Additionally, Matt leads a team of 43 providers in 27 clinics. He still sees patients three days each week. Matt was featured in the documentary The Providers and selected by the American Academy of PAs’ (AAPA) for the PA of the Year Award. Matt serves as the medical advisor to the EYE and launched the 100% San Miguel County initiative to create a countywide experiment that showcases the 100% New Mexico model.
William P. Soules, PhD
William is a member of the New Mexico State Senate representing District 37 since January 15, 2013. He is chair of the Senate Education Committee and chairs the interim Public Schools Capital Outlay Oversight Task Force. In his legislative role he serves as an education commissioner for New Mexico at the Education Commission of the States. Soules earned his BA and MA in psychology and his interdisciplinary PhD from New Mexico State University with a degree that spans education and psychology. Senator Soules is a champion for the data-driven and cross-sector prevention of adverse childhood experiences to ensure all students have access to the services needed to be safe and succeed with school. Dr. Soules’ commitment to the mission of the 100% New Mexico initiative has been instrumental in its development across the state.

The EYE is made possible because local champions have committed their time and energy to developing a county-based initiative, one that is a showcase for applied sciences. The EYE is far more than a collection of ideas or a repository for projects, it’s a tribute to the courage and compassion of local leaders who redefine the term public service. Our 100% New Mexico initiative teams are turning research into real-world solutions every day, often amid an environment of crisis and change. We dedicate the EYE to the local heroes working in our initiatives to demonstrate how collaboration between city government, county government, higher education and local stakeholders can ensure the health, safety and resilience of 100% of families.
